Kawaii Monster Cafe is located in Harajuku, which is popular for its colorful street art and young fashion, as well as quirky vintage clothing boutiques and cosplay shops along Takeshita Street; it offers a unique and one-of-a-kind dining and entertainment experience. Its creative weirdness will capture anybody who dares to enter, from the “Monster Girl” staff to an out-of-this-world menu.
Creative director Sebastian Masuda, a known Japanese fashion and interior designer, opened the Kawaii Monster Cafe in 2015. The cafe is divided into four zones: Mushroom Disco, Milk Stand, Bar Experiment, and Mel-Tea Room (which you can choose your preferred zone at the entrance). Each has a different theme with various color schemes and decorations. Guests can pick where they want to sit and also move freely between each to take pictures.

A Virtual Tour Of Kawaii Monster Cafe
The weirdness begins even before you enter the cafe, with a passage that is both weird and cute. The long red carpet on the floor should be the tongue of the Kawaii Monster Cafe’s purple monster mascot, Mr. Ten Thousand Chopsticks, or better known as, Choppy. Guided by the ‘tongue’, you will enter the gut of the beast. You may come here to eat or as what you thought, but in reality you will be the ones getting eaten!
The Sweets Go Round – a merry-go-round in a form of a cake, is found in the center of the restaurant. It is also the symbol of Kawaii Monster Cafe and makes for the perfect kawaii photo spot.
The “Monster Girls” are the visual icons of the restaurant and they go by the names of Baby, Dolly, Candy, Nasty, and Crazy. They’re the once who perform on the Sweets Go Round and waits tables.
The Mushroom Disco is a funky forest that is filled with poisonous mushrooms and plants from outer space!
The Milk Stand zone is easily recognizable by the baby milk bottles hanging from the ceiling, which appear to be feeding colorful animal heads.
The Mel-Tea Room is a pastel paradise decorated with large sweets like ice cream cones, macarons, and chocolate bars. Probably the most kawaii room in the cafe. According to the staff, it is popular among lolitas.
Would you expect anything less strange than a giant, illuminated jellyfish bursting out of the cafe’s bar area? People, this is the Bar Experiment where you can relax with your group or on your own.
