Secretly, I’m a geek (sometimes not so secretly). I used to watch Gundam as a kid and collected a few items when I was growing up. While planning my trip to Japan, I made sure to include Gundam Cafe on my list. And it didn’t disappoint!

Gundam Cafe Akihabara

Ambiance

Gundam Cafe is a place that people visit for the atmosphere and being surround by Gundam merchandise, Gundam-related autographs, mecha aplenty. And of course, a place where you can grab a light snack. With a futuristic interior and an inventive menu, it’s like stepping into another world.

Food

Shaazaku Rice (Y1,188)
Gundam cafe special chicken rice with eggs. An omu rice with Zaku as a motif. I’ll rate this 3.5 out of 5. The sausage tasted bland/plain but once you eat them together with the rice and egg, it tasted better.

Gundam Stew (Y1058)
A new classic menu stew using Gundam as a motif is a dish that appetizes with the smell of baked cheese. I’ll give this one 3 starts.

Service

The staff were prompt in assisting me with my orders and they’re also friendly. Some of them can speak English so I did enjoy my time talking to them.

Overall

I was having an enjoyable time discussing about Mobile Suit Gundam and assembling a new model. And for me, it’s one of those rare experiences that one probably will never have anywhere but in Japan because finding people who are knowledgeable, passionate and interested in Gundam is a rarity. Aside from the food, I truly enjoyed the surroundings. Will definitely go back.
