Travel Guide: HEP Five Ferris Wheel in Osaka, Japan

Located at the 8th floor of the HEP Five Mall in Umeda, this Ferris wheel is a 15-minute ride where you can enjoy the Panoramic view of Osaka City. Inside the gondolas, they have speakers to plug in your mobile and listen to some music while you ride. One of the many perks of getting an Osaka Amazing Pass is you get to ride for FREE instead of paying ¥600.

HEP Five is one of Umeda’s known landmarks, it is a shopping mall that has a gigantic Ferris Wheel attached to it’s roof. HEP or “Hankyu Entertainment Park” most of what you can see inside are clothing stores, but there are also dining halls and “amusement zone” on the upper floors.

TICKETS TO HEP FIVE FERRIS WHEEL

Tickets can be purchased on-site, there are two ticket machines at the 7th floor entrance.

The fare is ¥600 for a ride, and elementary school age children or younger can ride for free. Souvenir photos are also available for ¥1,100.

You may also get an Osaka Amazing Pass, it gives you unlimited travel via subways, new trams and city buses within Kansai. Plus FREE entrance fee to HEP Five Ferris Wheel.

Gondola Outside/Inside

The Ferris Wheel is said to be a 75 meter in diameter and has 52 four-seater gondola that are fully air conditioned and have heating in the winter months. At night the whole wheel is illuminated. The

Gondolas are equipped with a bluetooth speaker you can connect to your mobile phones if you want some audio played throughout your Ferris wheel ride. This can both set the mood and help people relax, specially for some who are afraid of heights.

The upper part of the gondola is encased in glass so you can have a 360 degrees view of the city. Osaka Harbor is also visible from the top.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

  • HEP Five crowd are mostly teens both local and foreign.
  • Before boarding the gondola, expect to be ushered by a staff/photographer who will take your photo. A printed copy of your commemorative photo will be available as you exit the Ferris Wheel, which you may purchase for ¥1,100.
  • The ride is painfully slow but I guess it works for me since I’ve already been to another attraction… And I despite rushing.
