Travel Playlist: 90’s Alternative Rock

You’re probably thinking… “This chick has run out of travel topics to talk about.” Well, that may be true but I’d like write about simple yet relatable things like the songs that you listen to while you’re traveling – to work, to another country, or heck, to outer space!

I’m one of those kids whose older siblings blackmailed tricked into dancing Macarena and/or Barbie Girl (I still know the moves). Stuck being ‘Player 2’ in video games and cried after watching Titanic.

Even though the 90’s has already passed – two decades to be exact. I still find myself listening to these songs. Would you believe I still have my ‘Walkman’ and my cassettes? No, I don’t carry them when I travel.

To those who were born yesterday, a Walkman is portable music player – the great grandfather of Youtube & Spotify. If you were raised in the 90’s and didn’t know what a Walkman is – you’re in denial! C’mon man, don’t leave me hanging here!

Alright! Alright! Here’s my list, arranged by song title.

  1. #1 Crush – Garbage
  2. 1979 – The Smashing Pumpkins
  3. A Girl Like You – Edwyn Collins
  4. All Apologies – Nirvana
  5. All I Want – Toad The Wet Sprocket
  6. Ana’s Song (Open Fire) – Silverchair

  43. The Chemicals Between Us – Bush
  44. The Freshmen – The Verve Pipe
  45. Under The Bridge – Red Hot Chili Pepper

  47. Why Does It Always Rain On Me – Travis
  48. Wonderwall – Oasis
  49. You Oughta Know – Alanis Morissette
  50. You Get What You Give – New Radicals

I wonder if 90’s music is now considered to be ‘Oldies’? Is there a popular alternative song from way back that isn’t on my list? Did your older siblings (or parents) forced you into dancing Macarena too?

If you don’t know what to reply, just tell me I’m pretty and I have an awesome playlist. Kidding! 😁

  1. Batang ’90s here so I’m familiar with many of these songs (and bands). I love them all, they bring back so many happy memories of what I consider as the good old days.
