I’m quite slow when it comes to reading this year. To kick off ‘Librophilia’ this 2018, here’s Unf*ck Your Brain: Getting Over Anxiety, Depression, Anger, Freak-Outs, and Triggers with Science! by Dr. Faith G. Harper. This is the book I brought with me during my trip to Japan last April.
The title certainly grabs your attention! A short, explicative-laden book that I found immensely helpful for understanding the short-term and long-term damage of trauma and other mental health illnesses. The one thing that I really liked is the discussion of PTSD – which is TOO complicated to explain. It frames PTSD and potential responses in a simple and practical way. While Dr. Harper clearly wrote this to be a cheeky, readable book for those (like me) who who really don’t want self-help books. She also did a really good job of distilling all the dry medical talk that turns many readers away from self-help books.
If you can get past the language, this is actually a really smart, helpful, and surprisingly entertaining book on the subject. I’d definitely recommend it especially. those who want to understand why their minds so often seem uncontrollable, and it offers plenty of realistic tips for supporting healing.
The title surely can grab the attention of people, and it seems like a book I’d like to try.
Thanks for sharing this one.
